What Are Bifocal Contact Lenses?

by admin on 28/12/2011

Bifocal contact lenses provide both near and distance vision for the patient, just the same as bifocal eyeglasses lenses, but only the bifocal contact lenses sit directly on the eyeball, or specifically, the cornea. Bifocal eyeglasses lenses sit in front of the eye, not touching the eyeball.

Despite the fact that bifocal contact lenses are made to perform similar to bifocal eyeglasses, the fact of the matter is, after having worked with thousands of patients, most prefer not to wear bifocal contact lenses after having given them a fair try. Bifocal contact lenses certain can create many setbacks like poorer vision than with glasses, thus, many times, a doctor will prescribe monovision wear.

Monovision contact lens wear is when an eye doctor prescribes for the presbyopic patient a near vision contact lens to wear in one eye. It has been my experience that patients lean more toward this method if wanting to choose between using only contacts. Other than that, many also opt to remain in near vision or bifocal glasses.
