If there is one thing that anyone desiring the Optician’s profession needs to do is sign up and pass the American Board of Opticianry Certification Examination. Without this first step, becoming an Optician is literally impossible as one needs to pass this first test to become certified. If one would like to be come licensed, then a second test is necessary which is open book and performance based.
There are certain things one needs to know prior to taking the American Board of Opticianry Certification Examination. These
items that need to be studied have to do with everything from the electromagnetic spectrum to ANSI Standards for eyewear and mathematical calculations such as prism and transposing. For the most part, the person attempting to pass the American Board of Opticianry Certification Examination needs to have some sort of foundation in optical/eyeglasses work under the guides of an Optician. The reason for this is that the test is more than simply book knowledge. It is also situational with many what if this and that occurs.
Finally following and remembering some very important concepts and rules in the world of optics is key to successfully becoming a certified or licensed Optician. In this particular category, certain general steps, theories and examples will be provided that will hopefully assist anyone with the certification examination as the licensing examination consists of the same items with much more mathematics and hands on.
